a pocho aesthetic

CALLING ALL POCHOS

As you may well know, it has been a couple years since Romeo started Pocho in Greater Mexico.  It has come a long way pero it lacks something.  Como que le falta sal o chile o halgo.  Although it is very clean and user-friendly, the site is missing a design, a pocho aesthetic to accompany its narrative.

So we will begin with a logo and we don’t want it to look busted so we need your input.  As fellow pochos and/or pocho allies we are asking you to put your pocho sensibilities to good use.  Feel free to email me your suggestions (guzman.aimee@gmail.com) or post them in the comment section below.

I think beer with a book. Like reading or writing with a big 20 ounce tecate.

    Oh, I know..
It has to combine his belt buckle (which he even wears when he runs in central park), his sambas, and maybe like a tie…those 3 clashing things, might define, well not a cool aesthetic, but at least a different one.

This Bolano piece is amazing and captures a certain informal/relax/chill, but insightful register that many pochos strive for..

I think a combination of the invite and what czn is saying would be cool..maybe with a zarape on the side..dont know if i spelled that right. with the mexican flag. Or maybe like a mix of what pomona stands for or el monte since thats where most of us pochos are coming from with a mix of what mexico reminds you of.

I like Amanda’s suggestion of capturing the So. Cal. vibe, but that’s probably ’cause I’m also from So.Cal. I came across this mix of simplified font/images for “Naco” that I think captures a contemporary feel that might go well with more traditional symbols like the zerape, flag, tecate, etc.

I think Cruz’s blog has some cool pocho representations that might be helpful.
